Since I work with language and communication all the time, I am fascinated by the innocent mistakes people make when they communicate – These are some of the best I have read or heard of. If you do remember some such mis~take , do write in, I shall feature it on the website.
- Lady shoveling bones from a dinner plate and speaking to her neighbor: We had the Mukherjees’ for dinner last night!
- Strict Teacher telling her class If you wish to talk, ask me first!
- A bossy man telling NO to a salesman .. In a word – I don’t think so!
- Doctor to a young mother …. If the baby does not thrive on raw milk, boil it (?)
- A man from the Census department explaining a report – This summary of information contains totals of the numbers of students broken down by sex, martial status and age
- Stingy parent speaking to a child studying carpentry: Wood does not grow on trees you know
- My friend who thinks in Hindi and speaks in English – Will you remove a photograph of me cutting the cake? ( My reply – Sure as soon as you click your dress!)
- My teacher – Tomorrow I am going to give you all a surprise test
- The meticulous scientist to his assistant – When the water reaches 25 0 C take the temperature!
Some spellings are so difficult – ever heard of the intelligent blond who was asked to spell Mississippi – she turned around and asked – which one – the state or the river?
